Inspirations from the book, including the ship and fish illustrations that I based my models on + an intricate border that inspired the illustration I drew for the video
After blocking out the base shapes in Maya, I moved to ZBrush to sculpt the details on the ship
I spent many hours adding intricate texture details to bring the Moon Clipper to life in Substance Designer and Painter
A view of the reference, untextured model, and final textures for the ship
I modeled the fish entirely in Maya, carefully designing each piece to fit perfectly together
I textured the fish in Substance Painter, layering many hand-painted details on top of one another to imitate the glowing effect of the original illustration

For my senior project, I created a 3D scene inspired by The Man in the Moon, a beautiful picture book by William Joyce. I modeled all of the assets in Maya, bringing the ship into ZBrush to add extra details. I then created a watercolor base texture in Substance 3D Designer which I used on all of the models to create a cohesive, painted look. In addition to procedural textures, I added hand-painted details in Substance 3D Painter to imitate the intricate artwork in the picture book. Finally, I staged and rendered my models in Maya using Arnold Renderer.
